WOMEN OF GRACE Award-winning author and Fripp Island resident Nancy Thode will speak to Women of Grace about her book “Ahead of Her Time,” a biography of her mother, Ann Head, author, feminist, and early mentor to Pat Conroy. The book won the 2026 silver medal for biography from the Independent Publisher Book Awards. All St. Mark’s women are invited to join us at noon on Thursday, Oct. 15, in the church. Bring a lunch—beverages and cookies provided.
CELEBRATING THE REV. JACK NIETERT On Sunday, October 18, alongside our Ministry Fair and Parish Picnic, we will celebrate the Rev. Jack Neitert and give thanks for sixty years of his faithful priestly ministry. Jack will celebrate his final Eucharist as presider that day. After prayer and discernment, he has decided that, while he will continue to engage in ministry in many ways, he is called to conclude his ministry of presiding at the Eucharist.Please join us as we honor Jack’s remarkable ministry and celebrate this new chapter with joy and gratitude.
ALL SAINTS' DAY As we prepare to celebrate All Saints’ Day in November, St. Mark’s Parish will remember and give thanks for those we have loved and lost. We invite you to submit the name of a member of our parish who has died this year, or of a beloved family member or friend whom you would like us to remember during our All Saints’ Day worship. You can contact the church office or email Missy at [email protected] with the names. Together we will honor their lives and give thanks for the love, faith, and memories they shared with us.
BOOK CLUB The next St. Mark's Book Club will be Saturday, October 24, at 3 p.m. at Jane's Abrams’s house (902 Madrid Ave, Port Royal). We'll cover Chapter 7 of “The Tears of Things” by Richard Rohr. NEWCOMER'S RECEPTION St. Mark’s annual NEWCOMER’S RECEPTION will be hosted by our vestry and parish staff on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. This is an invitation to those that have visited or attended our services for the first time over the past year. It will be a wonderful opportunity to meet the church’s leaders, connect with other members, and learn more about life at St. Mark’s.
All newcomers who have provided their contact information will be receiving an email with more specifics from Jane Abrams (843-441-1879). If you would like to attend and have not yet given us your contact information, please fill out a card from the greeters’ table, and we will be in touch with you shortly. We look forward to extending the hand of faith and community to each of you. WE BELIEVE Packets with information about We Believe, the annual giving campaign to fund the church’s 2027 operating budget, have been mailed. You can return your pledge card in the Sunday offering plate or by mailing it to the church office. The campaign goal is $470,000 in pledges, which will fund 91 percent of the 2027 proposed budget of $515,000. That budget will be fine-tuned in December, based on the success of the campaign. If you didn’t get a pledge card or need another, you can pick one up on the nametag table, at the front doors to the church, or by calling the church office. If you make your pledge in cash and would like weekly pledge envelopes, please call the office. We will wrap up the campaign on Nov. 8.
MINISTRY FAIR AND FALL PICNIC Come celebrate the life of St. Mark’s at our Annual Fall Picnic & Ministry Fair on Sunday, October 18! We’ll gather for one combined service at 10 a.m., followed by a fun-filled time on The Green. Enjoy good food and fellowship while exploring the many ministries and programs that make St. Mark’s such a vibrant parish. Come learn, connect, and discover new ways to share your gifts and get involved. Please bring a favorite dish to share, and invite a friend to join us!
BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS Join us Sunday, October 11, at 4 p.m. on The Green at St. Mark’s, off Paris Avenue, for a special blessing of our beloved pets. Bring your furry, feathered, or four-legged friends for a time of prayer, gratitude, and celebration of the wonderful gift of our animals. All are welcome!
CONGREGATIONAL CARE: Wading into the Waters of Brain Health, Memory Loss and Caregiver Support Congregational Care at St. Mark’s is exploring the idea of gathering together to pool our resources, strength, and support as we learn more about brain health and the challenges faced by individuals, families, and friends affected by memory loss. Our first step is an informal gathering to gauge interest and availability. We hope you will join us to share information, learn about available resources and participate in an informal question-and-answer session. Our first gathering will be Friday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Ministry Center. Look for additional announcements in the Red Lion Weekly and Sunday bulletins. Questions? PILGRIMAGE 2027 What if the journey you’re longing for isn’t about seeing something new, but learning to see everything differently? This April, Little Coracles (the pilgrimage company Rev. Jenny and her colleague own and lead) invites you to walk the Portuguese Coastal Way to Santiago de Compostela, making space to slow down, notice, wonder, and experience the sacred in the ordinary. FOCUS GROUPS You’re invited to our Fall Focus Groups! We are excited to have you join the journey as we discern God’s calling for St. Mark’s together. This is your chance to share your voice, listen to neighbors, and feast on food and friendship while we explore what God is calling us to become. Save These Dates! All gatherings are at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s, following Yoga: October 10: What Was Jesus’ Mission? We’ll reflect on how Jesus lived His mission and prepared His disciples to carry that love into the world. November 21: What Is St. Mark’s Calling? How does Christ’s mission inspire our unique purpose here in Beaufort? December 5: Dreaming Forward Together. We’ll synthesize our insights to draft a mission statement that captures our shared spirit before Christmas break.
CALMING THE WATERS Join Kevin de l’Aigle, certified yoga teacher, for an inclusive series of mindfulness, gentle movement, breathwork, and guided meditation on Saturdays at 10am at St. Mark’s. Open to all—no experience or flexibility required. Come for loving kindness, peace, and community.
FLOWER GUILD If you have ever paused to admire the altar flowers, you have witnessed the quiet and creative ministry of the Flower Guild. This dedicated team of volunteers arranges flowers for Sunday services, Easter, Christmas, and special services. The guild is welcoming new members! You do not need to be a master gardener or florist or just a love of nature and a desire to serve. Members work on a rotating weekly schedule, gathering flowers and creating two arrangements for Sunday worship, with guidance in basic floral design provided. Flowers come from gardens, yards, local markets, and occasional roadside finds. After worship, arrangements are shared with members of our church community as a reminder of our love. If you would like to share your time and creativity in this meaningful ministry and connect with fellow parishioners, please contact Paula Miller at [email protected]. An introductory meeting will be held in September to answer questions and provide more details.
